dc probe detection of phased EEDFs in RF discharges
نویسنده
چکیده
Detection of non-Maxwellian electron energy distribution functions (EEDFs) by Langmuir probes in the presence of radiofrequency (RF) fluctuations in the plasma potential is possible if the probe is properly RF compensated. If the non-thermal electrons are created by wave acceleration, however, they usually are bunched at one phase of the RF. In this case, the usual method of forcing the probe to follow fluctuations in the floating potential (Vf) will be inappropriate, since Vf itself will be time-dependent in such a way as to ensure that the fast electron tail is not detected. The probe must be made to follow fluctuations in the space potential. Computations are given to show the effect of a RF on distributions with high-energy tails with and without the proper compensation. Singular EEDFs arising in the case of constant energy gain are also treated for the first time.

Electron energy distribution function measurements and plasma parameters in inductively coupled argon plasma
Electron energy distribution functions (EEDFs) have been measured in a cylindrical inductively coupled plasma (ICP) with a planar coil over a wide range of external parameters (argon pressure, discharge power and driving frequency). The measurements were performed under well-defined discharge conditions (discharge geometry, rf power absorbed by plasma, external electrical characteristics and el...
متن کاملMultiple harmonic compensation of Langmuir probes in rf discharges
We report on the use of an active Langmuir probe with three-harmonic compensation to diagnose rf discharge plasmas driven at 13.56 MHz. The plasma generates many harmonics on the fundamental, the first few being strongest. This gives a multi-harmonic rf voltage across the probe sheath that is removed by applying a rf signal to the probe that is matched both in amplitude and in phase for each ha...
متن کاملPerformance of Target Detection in Phased-MIMO Radars
In this paper, the problem of target detection in phased-MIMO radars is considered and target detection performance of phased-MIMO radars is compared with MIMO and phased-array radars. Phased-MIMO radars combine advantages of the MIMO and phased-array radars. In these radars, the transmit array will be partitioned into a number of subarrays that are allowed to overlap and each subarray transmit...
متن کاملNumerical Simulation of DC and RF Glow Discharges
As part of an ongoing research effort on plasma actuators for flow control, a numerical study of DC glow discharges and γ-mode RF glow discharges has been carried out. For simplicity, the study focused on two-dimensional problems. Several experimentally observed features of these discharges were reproduced in the numerical computations, including the expansion of the electrode spot with increas...
متن کاملAnalysis of Langmuir Probe Characteristics for Measurement of Plasma Parameters in RF Discharge Plasmas
A simple method for measuring RF plasma parameters by means of a DC-biased Langmuir probe is developed. The object of this paper is to ensure the reliability of this method by using the other methods with different principles. First, Langmuir probe current e I response on RF voltage p1 V superimposed to DC p V biased probe was examined in DC plasmas. Next, probe current response of DC biased pr...
